The East and West Rooms are spacious and light, lovingly restored.
Each room offers elegant comfort, with original heart-pine floors,
wavy glass windows, and high-ceilings. A double bed, or queen size bed, antique armoire, desk,
very comfortable reading chair, sofa, and coffee maker. The wide upstairs
porch runs the length of the rooms and overlooks the
James River and distant bluffs.
The Garden Room overlooks the old maple
grove and an ancient granite rock formation. This room provides writing desk, double bed, and sofa in a light-filled room with beautiful paintings. All rooms have ceiling fans and air-conditioning and share a hall bathroom
with a claw-foot tub and shower.
The Jade Room and Treetops, two third floor rooms, have lofty views of the river as well as northern light. The third floor is ideal for a couple's penthouse suite, as well as private writing and/or painting. All rooms have access to both upstairs and downstairs porches.
Linens provided. Laundry facilities are on the premises.
Wi-fi internet connection is available in all rooms.
Meals
Writers are responsible for their own meals. (Complimentary coffee, tea,
and basic staples). A grocery store in the town of Lovingston, a
20-minute drive from the retreat, is where you may purchase supplies
before your arrival at the Porches.
There is a large communal kitchen and elegant, comfortable common
rooms. The writers’ refectory (dining room) provides refrigerator, microwave,
and food cupboard. You may enjoy taking your meals inside or out
on the porches or grounds.
